For melanated folk, soul food was all we knew. I'm talking bout that food that big momma, your momma & aunties used to and probably still make for Sunday dinner to this day! That food that tasted like they put they ankles in it. Could have been the simplest meals but because it was made with every bit of love they had in their hearts, it left a memorable impression on you, your family, even the whole neighborhood. ⇒


Soul food originated deep in the dirty south— States like AL, GA & MS are credited with introducing the culture to us. Brought forth from the pits of our struggle for survival, soul food has since evolved into the realm of comfort & luxury.


Now here's where I come in. All the food I recreate into Vegan dishes today remind me of atime when I was coming up. Certain aromas provide me with the nostalgia of my grandma’s Deloris “Lolo” Joseph, Mary “Cathy” Bell, Doris “Purdy” Macmillan & my beloved caregiver Ms Josephine being in the kitchen while I watched them put pressure on them pots. I remember how they would measure everything by eye and could tell if something was done just by the smell of it and every time the food was amazingly seasoned to perfection.


Well since then, they all passed (except my grandma Doris) but not before passing their gifts onto me, and now I’m about to pass the torch over to you with this cookbook entitled Chef crook cooks with soul!!! 💋👨🏿‍🍳
